Part -TIME

HOURS: 6:30AM to 6:00PM (Mon – Fri)

8:00AM to 4:00PM (Sat)


The Sales Associate is the first point of contact for the customer and can provide an important impact on the impression of the business. The cashier provides all point-of-sale functions, including recording and collecting for customers purchases; processing transactions (cash, credit card, debit card) using retail software; keeping accurate record of all cash, in-house charge, and credit card transactions (debit, gift card etc.), reconciling records of sales with cash and credit information and making sure they balance, performing various services for customers, such as providing information, confirming prices, all done in a prompt friendly manner.


 Ensure customers are greeted promptly upon entering the store.

 Operate all point of sale equipment, including cash register with sufficient speed and accuracy.

 Verify signatures on the back of credit cards and expiry dates.

 Follow proper procedures according to store policy regarding returns and refunds.

 Ensure customers have had a positive shopping experience (i.e have you found everything you’re looking for); take steps to rectify if they haven’t.

 Answer phone in prompt fashion and take messages, according to store policy.

 Call when special orders come in.

 Assist those customers who need advice, information, or directions.

 Report suspicious behavior regarding potential shoptheft.

 Maintain check-out area and merchandise displays, keeping store tidy.

 Balance your cash drawer at the end of the day and/or end of your shift and remove cash from register in accordance with store policy.

 Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.

 Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.

 Check incoming merchandise against invoices to spot shortages, damaged goods, back-orders, etc.

 Always take appropriate safety precautions when cutting pipe, glass, wire mesh, making keys etc., and make an effort to minimize waste.

 Work toward a completed daily list of the stores Minimum Acceptable Daily Customer Experience & Operating Standards.


At anytime your supervisor may request your support with the following.

 Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, and restocking shelves.

 Advise the designated manager of shortages, damaged goods, back-orders etc.

 Change prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.

 Help unload incoming trucks.

 Build special displays and signage for sales, promotions and other special events.

 Remove sales and promotional displays, prices etc. and rearrange stock following promotional events.

 Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.

 Willingness to learn.


 Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.

 Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers.

 Good mathematical skills.

 Must be able to communicate effectively and persuasively with employees, management, suppliers, and customers, to obtain accurate information for pricing, estimates, quotations, etc.

 Willingness to learn.

 Prior retail experience beneficial.

 Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.

 High School graduate or equivalent.

 Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
